Did anyone watch the Golden Globes Sunday night? Award season is upon us, and I couldn’t be more excited! Here is my list of “favorites”, “bests” and “mosts” if you didn’t get a chance to watch or are just interested in what I have to say! Haha! Hope everyone is having a Happy Tuesday!
Claire Danes in Atelier Versace (Image via here)
Claire Danes was absolutely stunning as usual, and she was clearly glowing having just had her baby son a month ago. Claire won Best Actress for TV Drama, and had a fantastic speech. I think she’s great!
Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera (image via here)
This dress is definitely unconventional and even over the top, but it won me over as I watched her interview on the red carpet. The structure of the dress is perfection and the floral print with the gray background gave it what she described as a modern feel. She definitely took a risk with this one, and I think it paid off!
Taylor Swift in Donna Karan Atelier (image via here)
I had to include Taylor Swift on the list because she has been impressing me lately with her mature fashion choices. Her normal go-to would be a princess-cut so she totally surprised me with the structure of this dress and with the color, too. Stunning!
Katharine McPhee in Olivier Theyskens for Theory (image via here)
I normally don’t go for super low-cut dresses, but Katharine McPhee was absolutely gorgeous on the red carpet. She wears this gown so well. My vote for best dressed of the night!
Favorite nod to the Queen: Jennifer Lawrence
Everyone knows Meryl Streep is the Queen of the biz (with 17 Oscar nods and 27 Golden Globe nods so far). Sadly she was home with the flu, but when Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress in a Comedy Movie for her role in Silver Lining’s Playbook, she gave the best shout-out ever with her reference from the movie First Wives’ Club. Anyone recognize it?
Best Speech: Adele
Adele won Best Original Song for Skyfall, and she had the funnest speech of them all!
Most hilarious presenters: Will Ferrell & Kristen Wiig
There’s not much to say here. This improv had me laughing out loud!
Best Zinger: Tina Fey & Amy Poehler on Taylor Swift’s constant relationship changes
These ladies co-hosting were the highlight of my night. They were so legitimately funny, and I’m not the only one who thought so. The ratings were up for the first time in six years thanks to them!
Biggest Surprise: Ben Affleck wins Best Director for Argo
Normally the same people that are nominated for Golden Globes go on to be nominated in the same category at the Oscars. So I was super surprised when Ben Affleck didn’t even garner a nomination at the Oscars for directing Argo. What a snub! What a surprise when he actually took home the award in the same category at the Golden Globes. Usually the winner of the Golden Globes is a shoo-in for the Academy Award. Who knows who will win it now! Congrats to Ben Affleck though; totally well-deserved!

This week Emma Watson has been busy promoting her new film “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”. It’s her first major motion picture since the Harry Potter series ended, AND she debuts her American accent in it. I’m really hoping this film comes to Austin because it has pretty decent reviews so far.
Check out Emma’s looks for her various premieres. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her in a dress I didn’t love. She always incorporates such a good mix of high fashion and commercial likeability. Nothing is ever too safe, but somehow she always manages to pull off things others might not have been able to.

I find it pretty interesting. Besides the always-adorable-impossible-not-to-love Emma Watson, the red carpet fashion at the MTV VMAs Thursday night lacked quite a bit of color.

The show is known for it’s performances and awarding of pop(ular) music videos. And some the biggest names in pop music seemed to share the same idea on the red carpet. I saw lots of black and white.
Miley is proving to me more and more each day that the big chop was a good decision. I think she pulls it off well and with lots of confidence.

Rihanna also debuted shorter hair. I think it looks gorgeous because she is gorgeous. And the dress is just gorgeous, too. Simple, chic, FRILLING.

Taylor and Rihanna both made me really proud when they reminded everyone that white after Labor Day is totally fine. I really like what Taylor is wearing here because it’s a far cry from her typical pretty gown. Love the nod to menswear.

Elie Saab is one of my favorite designers so it’s hard for me to not like this dress on Katy Perry. I like it because it’s a little crazy and fun (kinda like the VMA’s) without going off the deep end. Plus, for Katy Perry, this is pretty toned down.

This is my definition for going off of the deep end, but it’s Nicki Minaj. She always has a crazy outfit. At least she’s consistent!

Ahh, gotta love Demi. I think she has the most gorgeous smile. It just radiates. This was after her pre-show performance and after she won her first moon man. I’m really happy for Demi and excited to see her as a judge on the X-Factor next week. Also, I’ve decided that A-line mini dresses look amazing on her figure.

Y’all. I have said it before, but I am REALLY looking forward to the premiere of Snow White and The Huntsman next week. 2012 has been a pretty disappointing year for Hollywood so far (besides The Hunger Games and Avengers, there hasn’t been much to look forward to). But I think the SWATH trailer looks pretty amazing, not to mention it boasts a pretty solid cast (Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth).
The premieres have begun outside of the U.S. – Check out the fun looks of Kristen and Charlize. Aren’t they both pretty gorgeous? Which looks are your favorite?

in Rag & Bone and Alexander Wang

in BCBG Max Azria

Have you guys heard of the new show, Fashion Star? I know, I know. I thought the same thing when I first heard about it. ANOTHER fashion reality show? Really? There are just SO many as it is!
But when I saw Jessica Simpson (one of the judges) on Ellen a few weeks ago promoting the show, I found myself really interested in its premise. The show consists of a group of up-and-coming designers trying to make it big in the fashion industry. But what makes it different from other shows is that besides the judges, there are also three buyers from Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, and H&M.
Each episode, the designer actually creates a few looks and premieres each look on the runway. Each judge then gives input and advice, and then the buyers bid on looks that they like. The looks go to the store with the highest bid, and the clothing is on sale online that night and in stores the very next day! Very cool!
There have been a lot of looks that I have LOVED, but no one has bid on. Here are some of my favorite looks that did get bids:
Neon color-blocking jersey dress at Saks
Cuffed pleated satin shorts in floral at Macy’s
Turquoise Dress at H&M (the back is cut-out, but you can’t see it here!)
Plaid ankle-cropped pants at Saks
The only downside to the show is that most of the looks are sold out in less than 24 hours! Also, if Saks wins a bid, I automatically know I’m not going to be able to afford it! But it’s really fun to watch an innovative fashion show where the looks are immediately available.
Have y’all heard of this show? What are your thoughts?
Well, the Hunger Games premiere is almost here, and Jennifer Lawrence has been all over the world promoting the flick. Here are some of the dresses she has worn to the biggest premieres. Which one is your favorite?
Prabal Gurung in L.A.
Ralph Lauren in London
Calvin Klein in New York
Marchesa in Berlin
Tom Ford in Paris
Because I’m in the middle of midterm craziness (my last ever!), new posts have been near the bottom of my priorities this week. So, I thought I’d share some of the videos that have made it on my procrastination list over the last few years. If you are currently in the procrastination process, these videos won’t let you down!
I just saw this one last night when I stayed up until 2:30 a.m. studying for an exam I had today. It gets really impressive around the 40 second mark. No pun intended, haha! Get it..Mark? Mark Ballas? Okay, maybe that wasn’t funny… (I’m really tired!)
Okay, I admit it. I love these two girls, I think they are so entertaining, and I have watched all of their videos and appearances on Ellen. There, I said it! Phew. That felt good.
Another thing I LOVE is Harry Potter. Another: when people that aren’t from the U.S. try to mimic our accents. That combo makes this video one of my faves. So funny!
I saw this video years ago, but ever since I watched Star Wars for the first time over the Christmas break, it finally makes (some) sense to me! She is so cute!
You guys are probably going to think I’m crazy, but Lyle only just introduced me to this old commercial last week. I can’t believe I somehow missed it. It is so funny to me!
Have you seen any of these or are you seeing them now for the first time? Do you have any that are must-sees? These videos are just a few of some of my favorites floating around on the internet. But, let’s face it, I’m procrastinating and really need to get back to a paper! Have a good Thursday!
Sacha Baron Cohen spills “ashes” on Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet. A lot of people thought this was hilarious, but I found it really rude and tactless! Guess you can’t expect much more from Cohen.
Angelina Jolie’s leg was the talk of the night:
Emma Stone’s presentation of Best Visual Effects with Ben Stiller. I couldn’t find a video on this for youtube, but you can go here to check it out. She is just too cute!
In accepting the award for Best Original Song, “Man or Muppet” writer Bret Mackenzie (of Flight of the Conchords), joked “I was genuinely starstruck when I met Kermit the Frog. But when you get to know him, he’s just a frog, and like many stars here, he’s shorter in real life.”
Christopher Plummer became the oldest person to ever win an Oscar at the age of 82 Sunday night. He won Best Supporting Actor for his role in Beginners, and at the start of his speech he beheld his Oscar and said “You’re only two years older than me, darling. Where have you been all my life?”
Best Acceptance Speeches
Finally, leave it to the Best Actor and Actress winners to have the most engaging, witty speeches! Jean Dujardin, of the Artist, and the one and only Meryl Streep (Iron Lady):
Did anyone watch the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night? It’s the final big awards show before the Oscars and often gives a projection of the major winners at the Academy Awards. I was definitely thrown off because the two front runners for Best Actor and Best Actress at the Oscars (George Clooney and Meryl Streep both won Golden Globes in their respective categories) lost out on the actor statue to Jean Dujardin of The Artist and Viola Davis of The Help. Generally the winner at the Oscars tends to have swept both the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards beforehand so it will be really exciting to see who takes home the top honors at the Academy Awards!
But enough about that. Now on to the dresses! There were so many FRILLING gowns this year. It was hard to narrow down my favorites, but here is my 2012 SAG Awards Best Dressed List:
Viola Davis in Marchesa
When I saw Viola during the ceremony, she literally took my breath away. She is absolutely stunning here. I especially love the contrast of the dress on her beautiful skin tone.
Michelle lucked out because her dress photographed well, but also looked fabulous during the live showing. She is so petite, and this simple and soft dress fit her perfectly. And of course, I’m a sucker for lace so I loved the detail around the neck and sleeves.
Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen
This might be my top favorite dress. I’m not sure that many people would agree with me on this, but I think it’s the definition of FRILLING, and Emma totally pulls it off. It’s flirty, fun, and young. And if you ask me, Emma can do no wrong. I think she is absolutely adorable!
Ariel Winter in Collette Dinnigan
You might recognize this lovely young lady from Modern Family. When they were accepting their award for best ensemble cast in a comedy show, I noticed her dress and instantly fell in love with it. I think it is totally age appropriate and perfect for the occasion.
Naya Rivera in Naeem Khan
Naya Rivera is stunning in this classic Naeem Khan gown. Some might call this safe, but I think for Naya, this is a genuinely chic pick. Plus, if you’ve seen some of her other awards show dress choices, you would find a good assortment of varying looks. I give this dress two thumbs up!
Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji
I had to include Octavia Spencer on this list because she is the “it” girl for the 2012 awards season. I’m pretty positive she will be taking home the Oscar for best supporting actress for her work in The Help. I think this dress complements her figure impeccably, I love the color, and I think it was an overall great choice for the occasion. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with for the Academy Awards!
Did you see the awards show? Which dresses were your favorites?
I respectfully submit to you that the color of the year is not, after all, Tangerine Tango; but is in fact, Blush…
(all photos from here.)
…as evidenced by the bevy of blush-colored gowns at last night’s Golden Globe awards (and that’s not even all!). This color was one of the first trends I noticed as I watched the red carpet coverage, and I think it’s FRILLING. For the record, I think this color speaks much better on television than it does up against the red carpet in still photos; the photos don’t do them justice. If you saw them, you know.
Ahhh, I’m in love with this color! 3 reasons why:
I’m glad to know that Aurelia made sure I was on top of this color trend when she got me this sparkly cardigan (aka spardigan) for Christmas, which has been making regular appearances in my day-to-day life.
I also love Shana’s recommendation to pair blush with white.
How are you wearing it?
