Frilling Remix: One Dress 3 Ways

By

Talking about Beth’s excellently versatile, neutral, and multi-seasonal, yet FRILLING dress (the last one in the post), I was reminded how useful a good neutral dress is.  Behold, my own very favorite versatile, neutral, multi-seasonal dress. The funny thing is, I didn’t even pick this out for myself.  My mom and Aurelia went shopping and surprised me with it last spring! It has become a wardrobe workhorse.

A few reasons I love this frock, after a year of wearing it on all kinds of occasions:
a) It’s navy blue: my favorite go-to neutral.
b) It has lovely details, including epaulets, buttoned front pockets, a pleated waistband, and side pockets you can actually put stuff in.
c) The zip-front makes it nursing-friendly.
d) The fabric is soft and comfortable.
e) It has a 50′s inspired silhouette, which is classic, and which I’m always drawn to.
f) (do I need more reasons?) It can dress up or down.

Here I have on just the dress, with a pair of comfy gray-blue flats:

dress: Anthropologie last season/ flats: Born

Cute, right?  But could be cuter, more FRILLING…  Well, let me show you what this dress can do.

(scarf: Charming Charlie / cardigan: JCrew outlet / tights: We Love Colors / booties: Aldo / belt: H&M / necklace: Circle and Square / bracelet: gifted)

With the addition of a few fun accessories and a couple of layers for interest, the dress goes from hmmm to ooooooh.  And the tights, scarf, cardi and boots make it nice for cooler weather.

(flats: Lands End Canvas / cardigan: JCrew Outlet / belt: Target / bangle and pearls: Beehive)

Here I’m adding a bold, bright, springy color and canvas flats, with red accessories and prim pearls.  A simple, feminine look.

And finally, for my favorite remixed look, I have added none other than my very most favorite hot pink blazer.

I seriously love this blazer. You have already seen it here, here, and here so I’m sure you get by now that it is my current signature piece. Who would’ve thought that a hot pink blazer would be one of the pieces I use most?  Me, that’s who; cause that’s how I roll.  Add a shiny skinny belt, fun strappy wedge sandals, and a long necklace, and you have another easy remix of a staple item!

If you don’t have a neutral dress that you love in your closet, you should put it on your shopping list.  I recommend that you hunt for the one you love, one that can live with you for a while, one that is classic in style and neutral in color, and that fits perfectly and makes you feel fabulous.  Don’t settle for less than love on this one.  You’ll find all kinds of ways to wear it for many seasons to come.

Do you have a go-to dress that you love? Have you remixed it in creative ways, or for different seasons? Send us photos!  We’d love to see them!  youfrillme (at) gmail (dot) com
