Check out my loot from my trip to H&M in Dallas this weekend. I purchased the pants for only thirteen dollars! What a steal! Neon is one of the things I’m most excited about this spring. What spring trends are you looking forward to?
One of my favorite go-to, recipes to cook with a simple and fast meal are these spicy fries. First of all, I love spicy food A LOT. I’m talking, i-love-for-my-mouth-to-BURN, I love spicy food so much. Also, these are a fun way to FRILL up a simple meal when you might not be in the mood for a bunch of prep work. Recipe below!
I respectfully submit to you that the color of the year is not, after all, Tangerine Tango; but is in fact, Blush…
(all photos from here.)
…as evidenced by the bevy of blush-colored gowns at last night’s Golden Globe awards (and that’s not even all!). This color was one of the first trends I noticed as I watched the red carpet coverage, and I think it’s FRILLING. For the record, I think this color speaks much better on television than it does up against the red carpet in still photos; the photos don’t do them justice. If you saw them, you know.
Ahhh, I’m in love with this color! 3 reasons why:
I’m glad to know that Aurelia made sure I was on top of this color trend when she got me this sparkly cardigan (aka spardigan) for Christmas, which has been making regular appearances in my day-to-day life.
I also love Shana’s recommendation to pair blush with white.
How are you wearing it?
This week, Cake Jubilee had the opportunity to whip up some cupcakes for a baby shower. The theme was a sort of monkey/jungle vibe so I decided to make my own monkey and banana cupcake toppers to add some extra frills. Jump on over to this old post to learn how to make your own homemade cake topper. Have a very happy Saturday, and don’t forget to like our new Facebook page if you haven’t already!
Hello and Happy Friday!
Aurelia and I are so excited about this new year on You Frill Me! We have lots of ideas and fun things planned, as well as a FRILLING blog remodel currently in the works. A couple of FRILLING things of note:
We’re on Facebook! Please, give us some love and like our page.
We’re on Pinterest! You can follow our boards here.
This Mama is FRILLED to announce that Baby B has her first pair of skinny jeans!
Suzy found a bunch of home accessories in this year’s color on Etsy.
My gal Lane has an awesome idea for keeping track of your exercise.
Mia-Louise’s home is gorgeous. I’m kindof obsessed with it. Her best style advice: “Save your money and wait to buy the things you really love and want.” That’s advice I can get behind.
Oh, I am just not so sure about this. Reserving judgement, though… (Aurelia will probably come out wearing it fabulously and then I’ll eat my words)
Finally! Someone is wearing an awesome poncho!
Did you find anything FRILLING this week? Share in the comments!
Hat: Banana Republic, Jacket: H&M, Sweater: Gap, Skirt: Francesca’s, Shoes: Arturo Chang, Tangerine bracelet: JCrew, Laptop Bag: Urban Outfitters
You may already know that Pantone’s color of the year has been declared “Tangerine Tango” for 2012. I had been eyeing things in tangerine as of late, and now I am not sure if I was just influenced by this trend or if I found it all on my own! But I purchased an absolutely adorable blazer and scarf for my sister’s Christmas presents over a month ago in this exact shade, and am now super jealous of them. What a lucky girl!
Recently, I lucked out, too with this tangerine lip gloss called “knockout” by MAC. I feel pretty close to a knockout when I’m wearing it, and I can’t wait to find fun new ways to accessorize using this color!
What do you think of tangerine tango being the color of the year?
I think the new show “New Girl” on Fox is hilarious. Zooey Deschanel is funny and adorable in it, as always. I always admire Zooey’s sense of style, but the clothes she wears as her character Jess make me melt each week.
Her wardrobe is fun and feminine, loaded with color and pattern, vintage-inspired yet fresh and modern, and full of blouses, skirts, and cute flats. I love.
Wanna get the look? Here are a few suggestions:
This month’s pick over at Everybody Everywear is Black and White. The fun thing about this scheme is that it’s not one I tend to go for a lot, so I had to go shopping in my closet for a new look. I kept things pretty simple with my go-to high-waist, mini skirt from Urban Outfitters. I wanted to choose an outfit that I would actually wear out and about, and I was happy with the look and feel of the end result.
Sweater: Banana Republic, Scarf: H&M, Belt: Zara, Skirt: UO, Ultra Knee Highs: DSW, Boots: Blowfish, Bangles: F21
I love Fran’s choice for this EBEW. Her outfit is fun, fresh, versatile, and chic. I especially love the addition of the blazer. It’s the perfect daytime look!
Button-up shirt: JCrew, Cardigan: F21, Blazer: The Limited , Jeggings: Athleta, Shoes: Naot, Black Beads: Beehive Outlets, Pearls: Gifted, Sunglasses: Target
Do you like to wear black and white? Will you EBEW?
On Saturday we paid a lovely visit to Homestead Heritage, a traditional craft village at Brazos de Dios, TX, near Waco. This place is a craftperson’s delight. I was FRILLED by all the handmade goods made by residents of the homesteads of Brazos de Dios. 43 families live on traditional homesteads in intentional community, working the land and hand-making essential items.
We started with an organic, locally-produced breakfast at the Homestead Cafe
Many of the buildings in the village are historical, having been brought from various parts of the country and rescued from demolition. Others have been built using traditional methods. Here is the gift barn, where I was delighted by all the locally handmade goods on offer.
Goat’s milk soaps:
Hand woven chenille scarves:
Handwoven blankets and throws, some made of locally-produced wools
Hand-sewn dolls, with which B immediately fell in love:
Even handmade cloth diapers! (all-in-ones, not prefolds)
Quilts and baskets…
All that is just a sampling of what is available for purchase. They also offer classes in the various crafts, like pottery, weaving, knitting, woodworking, and organic gardening.
Here is the woodworking building
The water-powered gristmill, where locally grown grains are milled and sold:
We got to pet a team of horses.
I was inspired by the community’s commitment to sustainable living, care for the earth, simplicity, and reviving these traditional crafts. If you find yourself near Waco, I definitely recommend spending an afternoon there, especially if you are interested in sustainable living or handcrafts.

I am not a gadget girl by choice. But, when it comes to making my job as a Mama a little more convenient, I’m on the lookout for those simple gadgets that make life easier. Here are a few of my favorite helpers, that also make great shower gifts:
Bulb syringes are OUT! The Nose Frida is IN! So much easier to use, easier to clean, and it actually SUCKS! I’d had it with bulb syringes after about ten seconds of trying to use them, to no effect. Get/give a Nose Frida Snot Sucker.
The Dropper Stopper
Oh, how I wish I’d had this months ago! I recently picked one up in a little boutique, and Oh how I WISH I’d gotten two! You attach one end to your stroller (or carseat), and the other fastens around a toy, bottle, or sippy cup. No more picking up, then cleaning up, toys and cups off the street. The drops are stopped.
This is a set of BPA-free food containers that stack and lock together. I love it for toting around toddler (yep, I have a toddler now) snacks. It’s compact and easy to grab out of the diaper bag. Here I have it filled with on-the-go baby munchies (freeze-dried peas, dried apples, raisins, rice puffs, arrowroot teething cookies):
They come in a bunch of colors. I have “Transportation” theme, because that was what the store had in stock.
And speaking of toddlers, here she goes!
(can’t resist throwing that in there, blurry photos and all…)
Do you have any baby/toddler gadgets/helpers that FRILL you? Share in the comments. We’d love to hear about them!
