Frilling Closet Makeover: Jo Ann, Part 1

By

Hey everyone! I hope your week is off to a great start! I’m so excited to introduce you all to a new series I am starting on my newest hobby: closet organization. I’ve had quite a few people ask me to go through their closets with them, and I thought it would be really fun to blog about it.

So, without further ado, meet Jo Ann. Jo Ann is a FRILLING fashionista, a working woman in the professional world, and a super fun gal who loves to travel and spend time with friends.

Here were our goals for Jo Ann’s closet makeover experience:

  • Consultation: It was important first and foremost, that I understood Jo Ann’s style. We had a conversation about what she wanted from the experience, and then Jo Ann showed me three outfits she felt represented her style. This helped me for styling purposes later.
  • Downsizing: Jo Ann and I went through every item in her closet, and I asked her the two magic questions for each piece: “Do you love it?” “Do you wear it?” If she hesitated, she threw it in the maybe pile. Eventually, we were able to haul out two large piles of clothes!
  • Closet-shopping: While we went through Jo Ann’s wardrobe, she picked out pieces that she really liked, but wasn’t sure how to wear or only ever wore with the same things. Then, we picked out 3-4 different looks for each piece, and I snapped pictures of her in each one so she could remember them. This was the funnest, most rewarding part because Jo Ann found all kinds of new gems in her closet, and I got to give her style tips along the way!
  • Re-organization: Finally it was time to clean out and FRILL up! We completely cleaned out and reorganized Jo Ann’s closet. Now everything is color-coordinated and grouped by piece (tops, sweaters, cardigans, pants, skirts, dresses, etc.)
  • Finding needs: At the end of the day, Jo Ann got a newly made-over closet as well as a better idea of any basics she felt she was lacking.

Goodbye unneeded items!

After:

Even though we worked for a solid ten hours, there is still a lot to be done, and Jo Ann is really excited. She already has plans to better organize her shoes and to set up a section for her jewelry and mirror for getting ready. It was so fulfilling to see the almost-finished product. Jo Ann will have to update us when she adds her personal FRILLS to this space!

With her newly assessed and organized closet, Jo Ann won’t have to worry about random, impulse buys. She now knows exactly what’s in her closet and what she’s missing. This leaves room for less wasteful and more thoughtful shopping in the future. FRILLING!

Jo Ann, you FRILL us! Stay tuned, friends, for part 2 of Jo Ann’s experience on Thursday. She’ll be modeling some of her new outfits we found among the clothes she already owns!
