Best Dressed at the 2012 SAG Awards

By

Did anyone watch the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night? It’s the final big awards show before the Oscars and often gives a projection of the major winners at the Academy Awards. I was definitely thrown off because the two front runners for Best Actor and Best Actress at the Oscars (George Clooney and Meryl Streep both won Golden Globes in their respective categories) lost out on the actor statue to Jean Dujardin of The Artist and Viola Davis of The Help. Generally the winner at the Oscars tends to have swept both the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards beforehand so it will be really exciting to see who takes home the top honors at the Academy Awards!

But enough about that. Now on to the dresses! There were so many FRILLING gowns this year. It was hard to narrow down my favorites, but here is my 2012 SAG Awards Best Dressed List:

Viola Davis in Marchesa

When I saw Viola during the ceremony, she literally took my breath away. She is absolutely stunning here. I especially love the contrast of the dress on her beautiful skin tone.

Michelle Williams

Michelle lucked out because her dress photographed well, but also looked fabulous during the live showing. She is so petite, and this simple and soft dress fit her perfectly. And of course, I’m a sucker for lace so I loved the detail around the neck and sleeves.

Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen

This might be my top favorite dress. I’m not sure that many people would agree with me on this, but I think it’s the definition of FRILLING, and Emma totally pulls it off. It’s flirty, fun, and young. And if you ask me, Emma can do no wrong. I think she is absolutely adorable!

Ariel Winter in Collette Dinnigan

You might recognize this lovely young lady from Modern Family. When they were accepting their award for best ensemble cast in a comedy show, I noticed her dress and instantly fell in love with it. I think it is totally age appropriate and perfect for the occasion.

Naya Rivera in Naeem Khan

Naya Rivera is stunning in this classic Naeem Khan gown. Some might call this safe, but I think for Naya, this is a genuinely chic pick. Plus, if you’ve seen some of her other awards show dress choices, you would find a good assortment of varying looks. I give this dress two thumbs up!

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji

I had to include Octavia Spencer on this list because she is the “it” girl for the 2012 awards season. I’m pretty positive she will be taking home the Oscar for best supporting actress for her work in The Help. I think this dress complements her figure impeccably, I love the color, and I think it was an overall great choice for the occasion. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with for the Academy Awards!

Did you see the awards show? Which dresses were your favorites?

Frilling Summer Movies: The Help

By

I read The Help last summer, and loved it. The movie was shooting during that time, and I have been waiting in anticipation ever since. At first I wasn’t sure about Emma Stone playing Skeeter, but I’ve since decided that I’m excited to see her in this role. I think she is a really talented actress, and hopefully this movie will give her more opportunities in the future to play lots of different kinds of roles.

I’m also excited to see Bryce Dallas Howard play Hilly Holbrook and of course, Viola Davis as Aibileen Clark. And I can’t wait to see Minny Jackson come to life on the big screen!

The Help premieres in theaters next week on August 10th! Will you see it? What did you think of the book?
